The Volvo Group is a Swedish multinational manufacturing company headquartered in Gothenburg. Its core activity is the production, distribution and sale of trucks, buses and construction equipment. Volvo also supplies marine and industrial drive systems and financial services. Although the two firms are still often conflated, Volvo Cars, also based in Gothenburg, has been a totally separate company since it was sold off in 1999. The companies still share the Volvo logo and co-operate in running the Volvo Museum.

The Volvo C30 S2000 was the first completely developed race car by Cyan Racing. The car made its debut for the 2008 Swedish Touring Car Championship and later made the team's full season World Championship debut in 2011 with a turbo engine.

Cyan Racing raced the C30 in the STCC between the years 2008 and 2011, claiming the 2009 title with Tommy Rustad behind the wheel.

The team developed a new turbo-charged engine for the 2011 FIA World Touring Car Championship season as the championship changed regulations. The engine was based on the new Drive-E engine family of Volvo Cars and made it into the race car before the production cars, leading to development enhancements for the production version thanks to the progress made by Cyan Racing on the racing circuits.

In 1994, TWR returned to the BTCC, allied with Volvo. This partnership was responsible for the controversial 850 Estate racing car, which was only rendered uncompetitive when the FIA allowed the use of aerodynamic aids in 1995. TWR then built and ran the works 850 Saloon with six wins in 1995 and five wins in 1996, and S40 securing one win in 1997 in the BTCC.
In 1998, TWR Volvo won the British Touring Car Championship with Rickard Rydell driving the S40. TWR also aided in designing the road-going Volvo C70 coupe and convertible.

The Volvo S60 S2000 was the first car that Cyan Racing started its own development with, driven by drivers such as Robert Dahlgren and Jan "Flash" Nilsson in the STCC during 2003 and 2007.

The base of the car was developed by Prodrive for the 2002 European Touring Car Championship, with Cyan Racing introducing it for the Swedish Touring Car Championship in 2003 as the championship introduced the S2000 regulations.

As the first development project of the company, running under the name Made in Sweden, Cyan Racing started development of chassis, dampers, engine and more to further develop the car. The team claimed three vice champion positions with it in 2003, 2004 and 2007.
